Abruzzo
Because of its beauty of nature the Abruzzi are regarded as “Europe’s greenest region”. It is an area that fascinates and wins you over. Easy to reach from all parts of Italy, the Abruzzi region has finally found its own tourist dimension.
Infrastructure and absorption capacity are now excellent. The region combines all Mediterranean landscapes. Linking north and south, the Balkans and Rome, the region allows a constant dialogue between the mountains and the sea. Beaches and cliffs form follow one another along the 130 km coastline of the Adriatic Sea.
Once visited mostly by families, the beaches are nowadays – thanks to their tourist harbours, sport infrastructure and events – also appealing to young and international visitors. Emitting from the beaches thousands of Italian and European tourists have started to turn to the hinterland, the coastal cities, and the historical town centres, the castles, churches, medieval towns and abbeys of the interior. There are many of these places steeped in history and art. Not to mention the paths which lead through the three national parks, the regional park, dozens of sanctuaries and oases, which ensure the survival of a multitude of animal and plant species.
There are a lot of reasons for visiting the Abruzzi region. “Strong and friendly” - thus writers and travel guides have called the Abruzzi. Much stronger are the unforgettable impressions left by the magnificent mountains, the Maiella, the Gran Sasso, the Sirente, the Monti della Laga, the summits of the Marsica and Velino. The rocks and snowfields of the Apennine Mountains overlook down on the hills, towns and valleys of the Abruzzi, the land to be discovered and experienced.
